Mount Aviat Academy is a Catholic, private co-educational school for students of average and above-average ability, approved by the State of Maryland and conducted by the Oblate Sisters of St. Francis de Sales. In 1979, the Academy was fully accredited by the Middle Atlantic States Accreditation Association.

Fundamental Goals

  • To educate the students as Christians for now and for eternity by character formation, value education, and religious instruction in the Salesian spirit.

Facilities

Located on 22 acres of rolling Maryland countryside, Mount Aviat Academy is housed in a modern school building with ample classroom space, a well-equipped Science lab, an Art and Music room, a well-stocked Library and a Computer room. The school has a fully equipped Gymnasium, an athletic field and considerable playground area. The beautiful country setting enhances the warm personal atmosphere of the school.

Independent kindergarten and preschool facilities offer young children an environment conducive to early learning.

Located off Maryland 213, North of Elkton, Mount Aviat Academy is only 15 minutes from Newark, Delaware and nearby areas of Pennsylvania.

Discipline

One of the primary concerns in the education of children at Mount Aviat Academy is the formation of a Christian character. Respect for self and others and self-discipline are essential components of this character. By means of firm and gentle guidance, the school helps students to realize their tremendous human potential and to cultivate a Christian attitude of loving respect for others.

Uniform

In grades one through four, girls wear a grey jumper and blue blouse. Girls in grades five through eight wear a plaid jumper with a white golf shirt or optional turtle neck.

Boys in grades one and two wear short grey pants and grey knee socks, a white shirt and a navy blue tie. In grades three through eight, boys wear long grey pants, a white shirt and a navy tie.

Class Size

Each class has approximately 24 to 27 students. There is a ratio of 18 students to 1 teacher, allowing considerable interaction between teachers and students and frequent individual attention for all students.

School Day

The school day lasts from 8:20 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The preschool program is conducted Monday through Thursday from 8:20 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
